and why?

I just noticed that nobody says unemployed anymore. It's "jobless claims" or "jobless benefits" and I'm wondering... WTF?
I find language evolution a *very* interesting subject. Sometimes (like in this case) I think it's the media dramatizing and making things sound worse than they are. The Canadian media has the opposite bias... they sometimes don't express things strongly enough, so you don't realize how serious something is.

I think JOBLESS is kind of on par with CHILDLESS. OMG WE HAVE NO JOBS!! OMG THAT POOR COUPLE HAS NO CHILDREN!!!
NAH, imho I think the word jobless is just easier to spell. I would not put too much more effort into the thinking process of why it all changed? It just did. It is just typical P.C shit that happens period. The word jobless is easier to say and less letters
to print on forms, letters, signs etc.
That is my Twocents FWIW
During the Bush administration because a jobless person isn't collecting UC benefits thus covering up how many people are unemployed or underemployed.
Yes, eddy! Because true unemployment figures only count new claims, not on-going or those who have used up all their benefits.
That is exactly true. It is disturbing to realize that someone who is unemployed is considered "employed" if they ran out of benefits. They also don't count a full time worker with benefits who gets laid off and takes two or three part time jobs without benefits and a lot less money to be fully employed. Lies, damned lies, and statistics.
