We got home last night after our long weekend up north and Ali was in and out of the litter box. He wasn't acting like himself - seemed like something was wrong. So we packed him into the car and off to the Emergency Animal Hospital.

He blocked up with crystals two and a half years ago and he was in the ER four times that time around. Then an in-patient at the vet for a week. So scary stuff.

Turned out this time he wasn't blocked - he has a UTI of some sort - they don't know what.

When we brought him home last night he ate dinner with his antibiotic pill but then when we went to bed he started vomiting, over and over. I ended up staying up with him most of the night.

This morning I brought him right to our regular vet - they had gotten the fax from the ER and said to bring him in asap.

He's spending the day at the vet as they haven't been able to get a urine sample from him and they are worried about the vomiting.

He's been sick so many times. I'm worried about him. He's about 8 years old and has been through a lot - too many vet visits.
(((ALI))))

OMG my heart goes out to both of you. I know what a nightmare it was last round. I hope he's okay!!!
Hug Hug to you both.
Aww, I'm so sorry. I do hope they find out what is wrong and it's nothing serious.

Please keep us posted.
Thanks everybody. Your kind wishes help.

I picked him up at the vet last night. They had to stick a needle in him to get urine. They said his urine had blood in it and a very high count of white blood cells. It also had some bacteria, which they sent off for a culture.

He is now on a higher dose of prednisone and an antibiotic but the antibiotic makes him sick. I got up at 5:30 this morning so I could give it to him and then watch him before I went to work - on Monday night it took nearly three hours for him to throw it up so I wanted there to be time.

When I left the house this morning he was not moving - it was obvious he was really nauseous. I'm hoping he keeps the medicine down and continues to for however long he has to take it. I'm hoping it's not 14 days - I can't imagine him being so ill for 14 days with the nausea...

Fingers crossed that he improves.
Poor kitty. Is the vet able to do anything for the nausea? I can't imagine it being easy to keep the medicine down (as well as food to keep his energy) to make him start to feel better.

And poor you having to stay up with a sick cat. No fun at all.
Ask your vet for the INJECTIBLE antibiotic... Eli's been on it nearly a year and it's made a HUGE difference in quality of life, because he hated being pilled too.

Website says: Cefovecin (Convenia, Pfizer Animal Health) is a new third generation cephalosporin antibiotic. The drug has a very long half-life, so that a single injection lasts 14 days in cats. The objective of this project was to determine the efficacy and safety of cefovecin for the treatment of cat bite wounds and abscesses. Cats enrolled in the study were either given cefovecin or oral amoxicillin/clavulanic acid. Efficacy was 100% for both drugs, showing that the new long-lasting antibiotic injection is as effective as 14 days of oral treatment with amoxicillin/clavulanic acid.
Poor Ali... I hope he gets better soon.
*hugs* for you both.
My sympathies.
Poor kitty! I hope he's better soon. It sucks having a sick pet Sad
Thank you, again, everybody. We were back at the vet again this morning, unfortunately.

I wish I'd read your message sooner, Jo - what a great thing the injectible antibiotic!

He was throwing up again last night. Not a good night. This morning the vet took him off the antibiotic and said to wait until we get the culture results (tomorrow). It's discouraging. He's actually been on this antibiotic before without problems, but this is a higher dose and that may be causing the problem.

We're three days into this and I'm starting to wear out already. Hoping it gets resolved very soon!
I am So sorry to be 3 days late in posting here Cats. It's tough getting computer time when Hubby is always home.
Anyway, I am so very sorry to hear about Ali ((((()))))
Hug Hug
I know how much hell you went with him last time around.
And him being only 8 its easy to see why you want to do everything to keep him alive & healthy.
Jo's idea about the shot antibiodic was something I too was going to suggest.
When Boots had his UTI he got a shot of antibiodiocs and he got liquid meds to squirt into his mouth. They looked like hypo's filled with goo. And it was a lot easier to deal with then a pill.
I don't remember the name of the meds. But you can ask your Vet to switch meds. Its obvious the meds Ali is taking is making him sick to his stomach. There has to be a different medicine he can take?
I hope eveything works out for you.
I know its tough on you, and your the best cat mom ever, so don't get discouraged, I am sure Ali will be just fine.
Just hang in there, and if you need any moral support feel free to PM me. Smile Hug Hugs for you & Ali Smile Dust
Oh poor kitty and poor you. I hope he gets better soon. I know how awful I feel when I see my pets sick or hurt. It kills me to see them so sad.
I hope your kitty gets better soon!
