Has everyone here checked out Pandora.com? It's the most amazing internet radio I've found yet - NO ads!! Plus it's just incredible - I've discovered so many artists through it. Fun stuff!
This is the awesomest thing ever! Thanks for telling us about it. I just downloaded it for my iPhone so I can listen to new music when I walk the dogs. I usually just listen to music I've put on the iPhone from my iTunes library, but that gets old day after day. So I made a station based on Devotchka, which is the band I'm listening to most these days (and who I saw LIVE last night in concert!), and they just pick other songs by other artists I might like based on Devotchka, which is fan-damn-tastic!
It's fun - you can also add other artists in or songs in that you like and they'll expand the station to incorporate those other musical styles.

Yes, I found it a while ago but got bored with it. I hate that you can't actually get it to play exactly what you want. I was trying to do a middle-eastern playlist and it kept giving me jazz stuff.
As USUAL every effing thing I'd like to do online that has to do with music, tv, etc is not allowed because I'm not in the US. What sucks is we are at a military base so I still feel US but of course we aren't counted as it. Wow that really disappoints me. But I can let my sister know I guess she is looking for something like this.
I love it. I listen frequently at work.
Right now I have a Spa Radio on. But someone did some work and has a Peace and Protest channel.
I was disappointed that I can't get some of the stuff I like, but I think that they continue to expand their selections.
Discovered it years ago... then it stopped working in Canada. Laws n' such.
GRRRR. Don't get me started.
Jo, sounds like the same thing with me!!! ARGH.

That sucks, but you do have access to lots of British TV online that we in the US aren't allowed to see. You can also buy your music in the UK store on iTunes, and I can't because I'm in the US. They have lots of stuff in the UK iTunes store that they don't have in the US iTunes store and it pisses me off no end. It's all such bullshit, the internet and all the stuff on it should be accessible to everyone in the world.
I prefer
Live 365 Yes there are some ads, but it's just like listening to regular radio. You can create an account-even people not in the U.S and add stations to your preset list. Browsing by genre or searching by artist or song is also available. There is a VIP pay only portion of the site and some radio stations are for VIPS only, but the selection is still varied enough that I do not get bored with it.

Actually I won't do UK iTunes because my MP3 player is not an iPod. I suppose I could just listen to it on my computer, but to me that's not worth the price. I kinda wished I'd gotten an iPod though... but I have another brand. It's fine I do like it, but it won't take iTunes.
Yeah I do like having access to stuff over here but there's so many US shows and stuff I want to be in on that I can't. We end up waiting for a show to come out on DVD and buy the season.

Yep. I was ADDICTED to it when Jo first told us about it but now we can't fucking get it here in Canada. What is this? Communist Russia? Fucking don't get me started. . .

I like Live365, too, but their ads drive me NUTS! The "National Clandestine Service" ads? And Walmart? Grrrr. I listen to NPR so I'm not used to ads as heavily as they are on Live365. I *do* like their variety, though. They have a Rai channel that I love and a few Bluegrass ones that are excellent.

My local NPR station has started a bluegrass offshoot with one of their HD channels. I believe they broadcast it online as well. I haven't listened to it, but if you're interested, you can find it at
http://www.wamu.org
I listen To Sirius cause Bob pays for it for his truck, so we get it free on line as a bonus.
Its great radio cause its commercial free.
Edit: Thanks for the links

.. We may check them out for future reference. That is, IF Bob does not go back to work anytime soon.

I'm glad to see AMU has returned bluegrass to the airwaves, somewhat anyway. Did you know that their format was once bluegrass? When I lived in DC they pulled it and changed formats. That was a sad time!
I didn't know that, CNK! I was kinda wondering why they chose bluegrass for one of their HD channels instead of the "usual" classical. Makes more sense to me now.

i decided to give Pandora a try again, thinking maybe they had added more diverse group of bands....nope, same thing as the last time i used it. Everyone raves that they hear new bands they had never heard of before, or new songs etc. I have yet to hear a new band or even a song i havent heard before on there, and it repeats stuff way too often, and only being able to skip so many times per hour is a major pain. I wished they would get unknown bands, and match them to the genres of music, so if i put in Metallica, i would get Pantera, Slayer, Black Sabbath etc, but also get some unknown thrash metal/heavy metal bands that you would never hear on the radio because they aren't signed to a label. Lots of GREAT bands out there that have not been discovered because they don't fit perfectly in to main stream. I will stick to going to local shows and listening to local bands, at least i get a more diverse selection of music that way instead of hearing the same ole stuff over and over.
Does anyone (J0) know why we can no longer get Pandora in Canada? I used to listen to it all the time and had many different lists. I think I still even remember my login and password.
