(03-12-2010 10:06 PM)Ziggy Wrote: [ -> ]The whole thing sounds like a lot of fun! I'm moving that weekend so I won't be able to make it, but I'm jealous over some of those plans...

Plus I'd probably visit the Houston Space centre, if I was able to visit...

It's too bad you scheduled your move on the same weekend of the con! I figured since I announced the dates last summer, it would give people plenty of notice.

NASA's Johnson Space Center will probably be shutting down due to budget cuts, so this may be your last chance to see it! I don't know how much longer it is going to be open.

Work requires me to leave the country on the 1st of May, so I don't have a choice about that weekend. Unfortunately. Not only do I have to pack that weekend for a 4-month trip, but I also have to pack up my home because I won't be returning there in September. Realistically I don't think that I'll have much of a life between now and the end of September... although the end of April will be the most stressful time of all! The silliest part is that I volunteered for this 'special' (not the brightest) job, so I can't even blame work for everything Smile
We have extended the discounted registration rate of $85 until April 9! Register now! http://www.nokiddinghouston.com

Author Laura Scott is offering a special prize drawing--the winner of which will receive a $100 American Express gift card (which can be used to pay part of your hotel bill or used at any restaurant or retailer that takes American Express) and a copy of my book Two is Enough Two Is Enough at Independent Booksellers.

All people have to do to enter the drawing is to email Laura at Saltwhistlebay at cs.com with their name and confirm that they are staying at least one night at the Crowne Plaza for the No Kidding! convention. She will do the drawing on Friday night before her talk: as long as the person whose name is drawn can produce their hotel key they will get the $100.00 gift card and a copy of the book.

Book your room and register now! http://www.nokiddinghouston.com
I have 2 free registrations to give away for the No Kdding! convention this weekend - IF you book a hotel room at the Crowne Plaza for at least 1 night.
The first 2 people who respond to me privately - with their hotel reservation confirmation number - will get a free registration. This means that you can attend all the events at the hotel for free, including the brunch and dinner on Saturday night.
Email me at nokiddinghouston at yahoo dot com to claim your prize.
Hotel booking info is at http://www.nokiddinghouston.com - or go to http://www.cpdowntown.com and book your room using the code "NOK".
Hey CFS did anyone you know win that $100 prize?

Yes, someone won it!

The convention went great. Even though it was only 30-40 people, the people who attended were all really nice and they all seemed to really enjoy themselves. I got a lot of thank-yous afterwards.

People also donated money to help me with the financial issue, so I broke even.
I think 30-40 is a lot! In these times people have really cut back on travel - the hotel we stayed at in VT said their business was way down this year - so you really did great, IMO! I'm glad that those who came enjoyed themselves - that says a lot for your efforts.
Agreed. 30-40 is a lot these days, and the attendance was based on the economy whereas people's enjoyment was due to your hard work!
I'm glad people kicked in so you weren't stuck with the hotel bill. That really sucks that people backed out at the last minute like that.

Oh I am so very happy for you CFS Hug. Not only due to the fact that you had 30-40 people. That alone is wonderful. But the fact that you actually got some "thank you's" from people.
That is awesome, especially since you had such grief going for you what with cancelations and all. Kudos to you Clap
And I am sure if you ever decide to do this again you will run things a lot differently, LOL Smile
