1 -- Did you watch the inauguration?

2 -- What was your opinion of Obama's speech?

3 -- If an anti-gay minister gives the invocation, and talks of peace and harmony and love, should we believe him?

4 -- If a Chief Justice doesn't know the oath, when it's laid out there in the Constitution, should he have to go back to law school? -- or is tar and feathering sufficient?
1 -- Did you watch the inauguration?
Yes, I did.

2 -- What was your opinion of Obama's speech?
I felt somewhat inspired, which is saying a lot for a cynic, like me. I do have to say I appreciate "nonbeliever" being mentioned on equal ground with other religious choices.

3 -- If an anti-gay minister gives the invocation, and talks of peace and harmony and love, should we believe him?
I'm taking a "wait and see," stance, on that one.

4 -- If a Chief Justice doesn't know the oath, when it's laid out there in the Constitution, should he have to go back to law school? -- or is tar and feathering sufficient?
Tar and feathers are too messy for my taste. I think relentless mocking will work fine.
1 -- Did you watch the inauguration?
Nope. Too busy with a project. Haven't even checked anything out online. Figure it will be the only thing on the news for the next four days or so.

2 -- What was your opinion of Obama's speech?
Didn't see/hear it. Really hope it was good.

3 -- If an anti-gay minister gives the invocation, and talks of peace and harmony and love, should we believe him?
Not sure if Rick is one of those who goes with the saying "Love the sinner, Hate the sin." (Honestly, don't pay much attention to him since I don't jive with his 40 days stuff) If it is along the lines of "love the sinner" camp, then yes, flawed as it is at least it looks past the "sin". Otherwise, he was just hired for his name recognition.
As with most pastor/ministers in that position, take from it what you will.*

4 -- If a Chief Justice doesn't know the oath, when it's laid out there in the Constitution, should he have to go back to law school? -- or is tar and feathering sufficient?
Well, considering that the Constitution has been adapted for King George and in shambles, I would say that a simple tar and feathering will work. While watching Schoolhouse Rock.

*Keep in mind with the fundies, that if Rick or President Obama didn't come out and condem the gays (or anything else they are against) then they are just cowtowing to the masses. A few ultra-conservatives I know think Rick is a liberal pastor.
1 -- Did you watch the inauguration?

I saw the last 10 minutes of it.

2 -- What was your opinion of Obama's speech?

What I heard sounded OK.

3 -- If an anti-gay minister gives the invocation, and talks of peace and harmony and love, should we believe him?

For the sake of the entire world, I hope he means it!

4 -- If a Chief Justice doesn't know the oath, when it's laid out there in the Constitution, should he have to go back to law school? -- or is tar and feathering sufficient?

To be fair, there is so much to learn in law school...it would be hard to remember all of it. That said, if you know you are going to have to administer an oath in front of billions of people, it would be a good idea to practice.
PrairieGirl Wrote:1 -- Did you watch the inauguration? I was at lunch and watched the swearing in ceremony, I love that fact that I can now say President Obama, it makes me feel good that the previous occupant is now officially out.

2 -- What was your opinion of Obama's speech? Loved it! it was great! This is what we needed to hear after 9/11. We have a lot of hard work ahead of us and it won't easy but if we work together we will come out stronger. What Dubya gave us was a pat on the head and few hundred bucks and were told to go shopping, asshole, we are adults and needed something more inspiring than that.

3 -- If an anti-gay minister gives the invocation, and talks of peace and harmony and love, should we believe him? No.

4 -- If a Chief Justice doesn't know the oath, when it's laid out there in the Constitution, should he have to go back to law school? -- or is tar and feathering sufficient? I agree with Stitches a severe mocking is good enough.
1 -- Did you watch the inauguration?
-- Yes, I did. I was at work at a school, and they had it projected on the gym wall with the whole school there. I was luckily in the library with just a few teachers, where it was quiet.

2 -- What was your opinion of Obama's speech?
-- I loved the part about restoring science to it's rightful place. Overall I didn't think it was that great, in fact I thought it was a little long winded and not one of his best.

3 -- If an anti-gay minister gives the invocation, and talks of peace and harmony and love, should we believe him?
-- Absolutely not. I don't buy love coming out of the mouth of a man who embodies hate.

4 -- If a Chief Justice doesn't know the oath, when it's laid out there in the Constitution, should he have to go back to law school? -- or is tar and feathering sufficient?
-- Wasn't that dude appointed by Dubya? It's a damn wonder he has opposable thumbs and speaks without dropping the 'ings' of the ends of words.

1. You bet your sweet bippy I did. I wanted to make sure Bush was gone.

2. I was struck by the fact that instead of saying we are a Christian nation he mentioned Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, and NON-BELIEVERS! After George H. W. Bush telling me I am not an American and George W. Bush basically implying it I finally feel like an American.

3. No.

4. I am not surprised that a Bush appointee would be a retard. I mean for something like this I'd have crib notes at the minimum and for me, it'd be on a teleprompter and in temporary tattoo form. I mean the whole world is watching for crying out loud. I also wonder if this was deliberate to make Obama look bad.

Oh and I must say, DAMN it is good to listen to a speech by someone who is articulate!
1 -- Did you watch the inauguration?
No, I was in a meeting and then at the office. Saw a few recaps after noon, though.

2 -- What was your opinion of Obama's speech?
Have not read it yet.

3 -- If an anti-gay minister gives the invocation, and talks of peace and harmony and love, should we believe him?
Nope, don't believe any of them bible thumpers who are not inclusive of everyone.

4 -- If a Chief Justice doesn't know the oath, when it's laid out there in the Constitution, should he have to go back to law school? -- or is tar and feathering sufficient?
I suggest it was totally ignorant to think he would 'remember' it and go up there to swear in the Pres. without notes. Duh! Always, but always have notes as backup!

1 -- Did you watch the inauguration?

Yes. I'm still sick with a head cold so I woke up early just to watch history being made.

2 -- What was your opinion of Obama's speech?

Long-winded, said the same thing over and over, just in slightly different ways. Pretty mundane and certainly not one for the record books - BUT: It was honest. He said it's going to be a hard road ahead, that he/they have to work to right a bunch of wrongs, yet he still reached out to those to the right and appealed for inclusion of all. I did like how he put the onus of fixing the wrongs on the shoulders of the American PEOPLE, and not solely on government.

3 -- If an anti-gay minister gives the invocation, and talks of peace and harmony and love, should we believe him?

Oh fer fucks sake, enough with the gays already! There are TONS of special interest groups that have been ignored for years on end - concentrating on the gay movement is wearing very thin.

4 -- If a Chief Justice doesn't know the oath, when it's laid out there in the Constitution, should he have to go back to law school? -- or is tar and feathering sufficient?

I was surprised he didn't break the oath down into smaller bites - I note is was Obama who lost track first then the Justice had to scramble to put the words back out there for Obama to repeat back.

Not worthy of tar and feathering, though. Nerves, excitement, the enormous pressure of billions watching, yeah - so they stumbled. So what?

~~~~~~~~~
Did anyone else get the feeling that Bush was shooting daggers into Obamas' back during that speech? I picked up on a few zingers against Bush, et al. and part of me expected Obama to turn sideways, look at Bush, and say, "I gotta fix what YOU fucked up. Thanks, you freakin' moron!" At one point Bush looked like he was about to wail, "I don't wanna gooooooo!!" and cling to the side rails of the White House requiring the Secret Service to peel his fingers off one at a time while saying, "c'mon, Georgie - time to go back to your cave in Crawford..."
1 -- Did you watch the inauguration?
It was 1 am in Singapore!! But I caught part of it on CNN.
2 -- What was your opinion of Obama's speech?
I was groggy (flu) so I wasn't paying much attention. Plus it was pretty American-centric (no surprises there). But I could definitely relate to the "patchwork of heritage" part.
3 -- If an anti-gay minister gives the invocation, and talks of peace and harmony and love, should we believe him?
Erm, Rick Warren. Remains to be seen.
4 -- If a Chief Justice doesn't know the oath, when it's laid out there in the Constitution, should he have to go back to law school? -- or is tar and feathering sufficient?
That smile from Obama is worth lots already I think!
1 -- Did you watch the inauguration? No. My boss actually allowed us to go watch it on a big screen TV they had set up but I'm way too cynical to believe. I went to the last two inaugural parades as a protestor. It was quite nice to sit this one out.
2 -- What was your opinion of Obama's speech? Haven't read it.
3 -- If an anti-gay minister gives the invocation, and talks of peace and harmony and love, should we believe him? Hell no. That guy is a jerk. Yet another reason I didn't want to watch the inauguration.
4 -- If a Chief Justice doesn't know the oath, when it's laid out there in the Constitution, should he have to go back to law school? -- or is tar and feathering sufficient? I forgive the guy, he was likely nervous...
Fiona, I recommend you see the movie Milk. You cannot imagine what gay people had to go through to get any rights at all in the USA.
1 -- Did you watch the inauguration?
Yes -- I work nights so it meant cutting into my sleeping time but it was well worth it.
2 -- What was your opinion of Obama's speech?
It was very articulate, but somehow I was expecting more. I'll give it a B+ or an A-.
3 -- If an anti-gay minister gives the invocation, and talks of peace and harmony and love, should we believe him?
No...and I find it interesting he is a pastor of the totally gay sounding "Saddleback Church". I didn't realize how controversial he was -- but as soon as he walked to the podium I thought he looked like a sleazy televangelist.
4 -- If a Chief Justice doesn't know the oath, when it's laid out there in the Constitution, should he have to go back to law school? -- or is tar and feathering sufficient?
Everyone I know has been mocking him. I'm for tarring and feathering and then sending him back to law school. Leave it to a Bush appointee to screw things up on such a great day.
Horse Racer Wrote:I find it interesting he is a pastor of the totally gay sounding "Saddleback Church".
LOL, you thought that, too! I was thinking it sounds like it could be a French Quarter gay bar, right next to Rawhide (which is a real French Quarter gay bar).
PrairieGirl
I read in the news that they asked Obama to take the oath again yesterday, so that there will be no doubts. Wise move.
1. HECK YEAH! I was there. Come to think of it I didn't watch it at all, because I was there. You can't have your cake and eat it too; either you watch it, or you are there.
2. Still haven't heard it! lol, we were all rushing to the gates to try to get to the parade. If it was even half as good as his previous 50 speeches I'm sure it was amazing.
3. Ugh, that asshole. Him and his god this and god that...who cares.
4. As someone who was at the event, no one even noticed the flub until watching CNN 4 hours later. He was nervous and excited? It was crowded, loud and freezing. I don't care about rearranging a few words. This has been made into too big of a deal imho. What people should discuss is Aretha Franklin's ugly hat.
OMG LINDSAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had no idea you were there! How did you get tickets??? Where did you stay?? Those pictures are awesome... you were so close to Anderson Cooper! LOL
