1 -- What piece of technology could you not live without?
Hmm......that's a toughie. Probably the television, although so long as there are books, I can adapt.
2 -- Do you think technology makes us dumber?
Oh yes! I know I've lost brain cells since the Internetz
3 -- What "old school" thing do you prefer over the more technological fancy thing?
Books on paper. I don't enjoy online reading. I'm reserving judgment on things like Kindle.
4 -- What is your opinion of technology that ties your life together in one package -- like having all your medical information on a chip embedded in your driver's license?
Scary, if it can't be made completely secure!
5 -- Biggest public nuisance -- people with loud car stereos, people yammering on cell phones everywhere, or people who can't disconnect from their email/internet?
I think the stereos and the cell phones, because they're everywhere, and they are ruining the peace of a lovely day! But if I have to pick one, I'll go with car stereos. There's nothing worse that admiring a lovely sunset over the beach, only to have a flashy car with heart-defibrillating bass playing a rap song pull up nearby. That's not the soundtrack I was envisioning in my head as I gazed at the sunset, yo?
1 -- What piece of technology could you not live without?
-- Laptop/internet
2 -- Do you think technology makes us dumber?
-- Absolutely not. It makes us WAY smarter.
3 -- What "old school" thing do you prefer over the more technological fancy thing?
-- I like natural light vs. lightbulb light.
4 -- What is your opinion of technology that ties your life together in one package -- like having all your medical information on a chip embedded in your driver's license?
-- doesn't bother me at all. It would actually be kind of convenient.
5 -- Biggest public nuisance -- people with loud car stereos, people yammering on cell phones everywhere, or people who can't disconnect from their email/internet?
-- none of these thigns bother me... in fact (brace yourself) I'm all three. BIG TIME!

1. The computer, although the microwave is close.
2. Not really, but I think it makes us ruder. We've become distanced from other people.
3. Landline phones. I hate the idea of people being able to call me at any time no matter where I am.
4. Horrifying. I hate the idea that the gov't or even worse, corporations can know everything about me.
5. Rudeness in general. Technology has made it worse. Today everyone except Luddites like me has a cell phone and they will talk anywhere and it's not work related or an emergency. It used to be that you didn't talk in the movie theater or in line at the store or god help me on the bus, but now everyone has to yammer on about stupid crap that no one cares about anyway.
1 -- What piece of technology could you not live without?
computer with internet access
2 -- Do you think technology makes us dumber?
for lazy users, yes
3 -- What "old school" thing do you prefer over the more technological fancy thing?
holding a book and reading it, also putting pencil to paper and writing by hand
4 -- What is your opinion of technology that ties your life together in one package -- like having all your medical information on a chip embedded in your driver's license?
do not like it one bit
5 -- Biggest public nuisance -- people with loud car stereos, people yammering on cell phones everywhere, or people who can't disconnect from their email/internet?
the cell phone thing. maybe because I don't have one and do not understand the urgency of some of the conversations overheard in public.
1 -- What piece of technology could you not live without?
Tie between cellphone and computer/internet. I don't think I could ever go back to living without them.
2 -- Do you think technology makes us dumber?
Not necessarily dumber, but lazier maybe. Or more accurately, one set of skills is abandoned in favor of another.
3 -- What "old school" thing do you prefer over the more technological fancy thing?
Record albums.
4 -- What is your opinion of technology that ties your life together in one package -- like having all your medical information on a chip embedded in your driver's license?
I dunno...I never heard of that before. On the one hand, it would be convenient, but on the other hand, it sounds very 1984/Big Brother/Brave New World/every other scary futuristic sci-fi horror story. And what's to stop someone from stealing it? Then you'd really be up shit creek.
And what about people with no driver's license? Not everyone drives. I know people who don't drive and who don't have licenses.
5 -- Biggest public nuisance -- people with loud car stereos, people yammering on cell phones everywhere, or people who can't disconnect from their email/internet?
The first 2 definitely! The 3rd option is not particularly public, is it? Sounds like more of a private thing.
1 -- What piece of technology could you not live without?
the computer/internet. my sirius satellite radio is a close second - I can listen to the BBC anytime I want to
2 -- Do you think technology makes us dumber?
Yes indeed!
3 -- What "old school" thing do you prefer over the more technological fancy thing?
my vinyl albums and my victrola records
4 -- What is your opinion of technology that ties your life together in one package -- like having all your medical information on a chip embedded in your driver's license?
I am very wary of it -- it smacks of big brother to me
5 -- Biggest public nuisance -- people with loud car stereos, people yammering on cell phones everywhere, or people who can't disconnect from their email/internet?
people on their cell phones -- it's a danger on the roads and it's just downright rude in public places. Not many people are THAT important that they have to be in touch 24/07. Quite often when I am out mine is off. If I have an emergency I can turn it on and use it
1 -- What piece of technology could you not live without?
Probably my computer. Hard to imagine life without it.
2 -- Do you think technology makes us dumber?
Not if you don't allow it to.
3 -- What "old school" thing do you prefer over the more technological fancy thing?
Talking on the phone rather than sending an email.
4 -- What is your opinion of technology that ties your life together in one package -- like having all your medical information on a chip embedded in your driver's license?
Not sure.
5 -- Biggest public nuisance -- people with loud car stereos, people yammering on cell phones everywhere, or people who can't disconnect from their email/internet?
Talking on the cell phone while driving - although I have been guilty of this. I try not to do it anymore.
1 -- What piece of technology could you not live without?
The internet and my laptop. Good lord, what did I do before them??
2 -- Do you think technology makes us dumber?
No. Just the opposite, in fact. I love learning about stuff, and with the internet, I can learn scores of information for free! Well, for $70 a month for the cable connection. XD But totally, totally worth it.
3 -- What "old school" thing do you prefer over the more technological fancy thing?
I'm gonna say books. I still buy a lot of them even though I can read the stuff online. I love books.
4 -- What is your opinion of technology that ties your life together in one package -- like having all your medical information on a chip embedded in your driver's license?
Well, given all my health problems, the given example could be extremely helpful for me. But overall, I'm very cautious of stuff like that. My opinion would vary on a case-by-case basis.
5 -- Biggest public nuisance -- people with loud car stereos, people yammering on cell phones everywhere, or people who can't disconnect from their email/internet?
Loud car stereos. Especially at 2am. In fact, unless it's somewhere where you're supposed to be quiet, I kinda like hearing peoples' cellphone conversations. Call me nosy, but I just like hearing about how other people live.
1 -- What piece of technology could you not live without?
my laptop and the internet. it keeps me connected with people who have moved far away, i shop online for a lot of things, i use it for entertainment(World of Warcraft), and for researching new products, etc etc etc. plus it lets me meet awesome people like everyone here who are also CF!!!
2 -- Do you think technology makes us dumber?
It can if you let it, or it can be a tool that can make you smarter. If all you use technology for is to plop your butt in front of a TV and stare at the moving images, then yes, it makes you dumber simply because you could be using that time to learn, read, etc.
3 -- What "old school" thing do you prefer over the more technological fancy thing?
talking in person as opposed to talking on the phone or online! i HATE talking on the phone, and online its so distracting. In person, it is one on one, or a small group, and everyone talks about the same thing.
4 -- What is your opinion of technology that ties your life together in one package -- like having all your medical information on a chip embedded in your driver's license?
Somethings are fine to tie together, but others id prefer to keep separate. something like the example given would be good in the case of an emergency, but i wouldnt want all that information along with all my financial information all in once place. too easy for identity theft to occur if all the thief has to do is crack ONE item.
5 -- Biggest public nuisance -- people with loud car stereos, people yammering on cell phones everywhere, or people who can't disconnect from their email/internet?
People who cannot disconnect the cell phone from their ear. I swear ive seen them take their hands away and the phone stay put because its been there so long its embedded in to the side of their skulls. and they STILL havent figured out they dont have to SCREAM in to the phone to be heard. so annoying!!!
1 -- What piece of technology could you not live without?
Not so much a specific piece of technology, but when I travel the online thing that I am 'stuck' to is checking my email. So 'computer' or 'internet connection'.
2 -- Do you think technology makes us dumber?
Socally yes.
3 -- What "old school" thing do you prefer over the more technological fancy thing?
A lot of things. I have barely any technology in my home, relatively speaking. No TV, I use the microwave extremely rarely, no cell, etc. I can't really stand those fluorescent bulbs, so that's a good one too.
4 -- What is your opinion of technology that ties your life together in one package?
Not all in one package, but I don't mnd combining things a bit, or having more things online (like havnig medical records be more comprehensive would be a good idea).
5 -- Biggest public nuisance -- people with loud car stereos, people yammering on cell phones everywhere, or people who can't disconnect from their email/internet?
I fall into the last category, so I'll go with the middle one. I don't often hear loud car stereos...
1 -- What piece of technology could you not live without?
At work, my computer with internet. Most of my job is internet based.
At home, the digital converter box for the TV. (We have a computer, but are rarely on it more than 3 times a week.)
2 -- Do you think technology makes us dumber?
Not dumber, per se. Lazier. And more gullible.
Lazier since you don't have to remember things like phone numbers since they are programmed into your cell phone. You can just Google any topic and not have to look up anything.
Gullible since it is on the Internet it MUST be true.
3 -- What "old school" thing do you prefer over the more technological fancy thing?
Many things. Technology-wise- cell phones. Just give me a damn phone that I can talk to and hear the other person with. I do not need GPS, camera, and access to 30 games. OR texting.
Books are a good one since I didn't think of the technology equivalant. Ever see the Star Trek Next Generation when the captain is reading a real book instead of their little handheld things (that look like Kindles)? He makes the comment that there is nothing like the experience of holding a real book while reading and turning actual pages. (Plus you can read in the tub and not worry about more than wet pages.)
4 -- What is your opinion of technology that ties your life together in one package -- like having all your medical information on a chip embedded in your driver's license?
No. I am sure that there are good solid reasoning behind it, but NO. My medical information is not anyone's business except me and my doctor's. There can be too many possiblities for glitches.
5 -- Biggest public nuisance -- people with loud car stereos, people yammering on cell phones everywhere, or people who can't disconnect from their email/internet?
First one- People who won't get off their cell phone. Yes, cell phones while driving annoy and have scared the crap out of me. But the thing that pisses me off more is when someone is on a cell phone in a store. The clerk is trying to ask them a question or the pharmacy is giving instructions and they can't be bothered to listen and PAY attention to what is going on them RIGHT in front of their face. Couples who are out for dinner at a semi-nice place who are on their cell phones to other people rather than talking to each other.
Second - People texting. I don't text, EVER. But people in meetings texting, while driving (which I think is scarier than being on the phone). Besides not paying attention to what is going on, grammar and spelling has completely evaporated. KthnxL8r.
Both of those combined have made people ruder in general society.
1 -- What piece of technology could you not live without?
I hate to say it but my cell phone. And it's not that I even use it that much. I just like the security of knowing that I can get in touch with someone and vice versa when the need arises.
2 -- Do you think technology makes us dumber?
In the sense that people don't spend as much time with other pursuits such as reading books, yes.
3 -- What "old school" thing do you prefer over the more technological fancy thing?
Give me a good, old-fashioned book. The idea of reading a novel online repulses me.
4 -- What is your opinion of technology that ties your life together in one package -- like having all your medical information on a chip embedded in your driver's license?
It sounds convenient but I see the ease at which identity thieves could steal your information...all of it in one shot.
5 -- Biggest public nuisance -- people with loud car stereos, people yammering on cell phones everywhere, or people who can't disconnect from their email/internet?
My biggest technology pet peeves include people who blast their car stereos at ungodly hours and people who hold very loud and very private cell phone conversations in public places. Do people have no shame anymore?
