I made the unfortunate decision today to have my eldest ferret Xander, euthanized. After being diagnosed with insulinoma in August and going through ups and downs with medication, this weekend proved that he was ready to go.

Xander was my first ferret ever and has been with me through a move across Ontario and put up with all the other ferrets I brought into his life.

I am most worried about Loki who Xander used to drag around like a toy when he was a baby. Loki and Xander were very bonded and I feel so sad that Loki has lost his companion.

Poor little guy, he was adorable. How long do ferrets live usually?
I am so sorry. :-(

Aw, I'm so sorry. Godspeed, Xander.

7 years is average but ferrets are prone to adrenal disease and insulinoma.. both of which can cause a rapid decline. Xander was nearing 6 and had started having seizures in August. I initially did not know if he would survive the year, but his quality of life and his health had stabilized until recently.
I'm so sorry for your loss. He was a cutie pie. Hugs.
So sorry for your loss and for Loki. I know that ferrets, while having some challenges, are very sweet pets.
I'm so sorry. Xander was a cutie and will live in your heart forever.
I'm so sorry! I hope your other ferret is ok and that the two of you can comfort each other during this tough time.
My sympathies.
I'm sorry for your loss. He was a cute ferret.
Hug I am so very sorry for your loss. Rip Xander
Just a quick thank you for all the kind thoughts. Loki is doing much better then I anticipated. He is palling around with the younger ferrets more and seems to be his usual silly self. Smile
My sympathies. :-(
Sorry to hear about Xander. I'm glad Loki and the young 'uns are there to keep your spirits up and remind you of happy ferret memories. Hug
Hug Losing a pet is always so difficult. I am very sorry for the loss of your furbaby, Xander.
