We hired a temp at my office. Today was his first day. He'll be working just a few weeks, not even full time, just a few hours a week. He's doing a small project for us.

I've talked on the phone with the guy or his wife four times. Three out of the four times there was a screaming child in the background, so loud they can hardly hear me on the phone. This also happened to a colleague who spoke to the guy.

SO - he shows up today for his first 1/2 day of work. He sits down at his desk (work station belonging to another PT person) and he whips out a giant photo of his three kids on Santa's lap (seriously it was 8x11 sized) and sticks it on the desk, where it's staring at anyone who has to talk to the guy.

WTF, buddy. I mean, really. J. said I should have said to him, "So, I see your dick works." I wanted to ask him how he could do that to the environment but I just kept quiet.

Needless to say, I cannot stand the guy. Seriously - who the hell does that? I wouldn't bring a giant-ass picture of my cat to a temp workplace and stick it in people's faces!
I sometimes think that people display these giant photos for all to see or post a million kid photos in their work environment because they are really questioning themselves/their lives and posting these photos are a way to see if they actually made the 'righ't decision to have a load of kids because of what others say to them.
They love all of the, "Aaaawww, your fambly is sooo cuyute" and "You must be so proud" or "You must be so happy" BS. These people feed off of this type of feedback from others.

I mean, they go home to these people every night. Why on earth is there a need to post gigantic pics or a million small ones all over the place at work? It's weird.
Hey, after they waste all that time schlepping the kids to the mall and waiting in line for hours to see Santa, and then they shell out $$$ for the damn photo, you had better damn well look at it! LOL
I was going to post what CFScorpio said.
After spending $20 or more on a photo, he needs the world to see it.

He's still weird though. Especially considering he isn't even full time and he shares a desk.

LOL. That's what I was going to say Smile
Actively work at ignoring it when talking to him. It will drive hime nuts.
Also when I have had people with Shrieking Spawn in the background of calls (especially if it isn't a consumer but someone working from home) my response is usually, "Oh, I can see this is a bad time to call. Please give a call back when it is easier to understand each other."
Screaming kid in background usually leads to "miscommunications" from the call. Been burned by that once, never again.
Yeah he wants attention and validation. He thinks he's showing off and wants the praise that a lot of breeders will get.

Could not have said it better myself beachbum.. That is all he, or anyone like him, is after just one thing. And that is just some feedback to confirm that he is the best dad in the world, (puke) lol
And of course CFS nailed it too by saying after all the time & money vested into that santa photo, he better make sure he gets to get his moneys worth out of it somehow. So what better way to do so then to take it to work and show it off. Just like a little kid showing off a toy in class that he got for Xmas. Only this poor slob has these 3 toys with him forever, lol
And he can never stick them in a closet or an old box after he is bored with them,(his kids) although sadly many men do.
Which is why I advocate taking a parenting class BEFORE one gets pregnant! But, that is only in my little dream world.
My guess is that he brought the picture with him to remind himself why he is doing all this miserable temp work: to support Junior.

Ditto

I've had enough temp jobs to know not to take anything I'd want back to work, but whatever floats his boat. It's his reason for being there, I have pics of my dogs and cats on my desk and don't expect people to comment on them. Same thing.
I'm the same way. I've done so many temp jobs that I don't take anything personal to work unless it's my jacket. Stability doesn't exist as a temp.

hahahahaha

That would be hilarious.

But seriously, I agree, that is some bullshit.

I once worked on night shift at a factory as a data entry clerk doing paperwork and such. I shared a computer with a clerk who did the same job on day shift. She had her fat, ugly kids plastered on the wallpaper of the computer. It was annoying.

LOL dune67 that reminds me of Homer Simspon plastering Maggies Pix on his wall saying "Do it for her"

Maybe he got the idea from the Simpsons too? LOL
