Hmmm, my stash is running low...
12-29-2008, 08:50 PM
YES!!!!!!!!! I love the tea exchange...
12-29-2008, 11:31 PM
I've never done the tea exchange before... is it loose tea only?
12-30-2008, 02:51 AM
No, it's not loose tea at all. That would be hard to mail.

I'm in! I have a lot of tea, including a bunch of flavors I just got for the holidays as gifts that I either don't like or already have plenty of.

Not really, when you buy loose tea (at least where I have bought it) they package it for you.
So is the idea sending various bags of tea or just one type or..?
12-30-2008, 10:13 AM
Yes, each person on the list sends two teabags to each other person on the list. Two teabags laid flat in an envelope cost no more than just regular postage. So if 11 people sign up, you will send out 20 bags of tea and receive 20 bags... it's pretty cool!!

You can do two of one type or two different types. Half the fun is finding unusual blends or flavors to send out.

I am in.
I am still sipping on some stuff that I got last time. (Put a couple different ones into a tea tin and then misplaced the tin until a while back.)
What I remember from past years is trying not to be too specific so you can try new things, but if you are allergic to nuts or fruits or can't have caffine, mention that. If you can use loose leaf or only can use bagged tea, also mention that.
Most people send one bag each of two different teas. So you may open an envelope and have a tea bag of green tea and one of an herbal blend. Or two different types of black tea.
I know that some of my "found" stash was from Austrailia (Yummy relax tea) that was loose leaf and had directions on it as well as the ingredients for the herbal.

Usually we do tea bags, but last year, a few people did send loose tea. So I think either is fine. If people don't have the equipment to make loose tea, they can state their preference to the organizer.

What would be the deadline? I am traveling in mid-January and would hope to find some good tea then, but if I don't find any then I wouldn't be able to send some until early March when I will have access to a tea shop. Are people willing to wait? I'll do a better job of packaging it up this time, I promise! Plus you're pretty much guaranteed something exotic, even if I don't make any promises about the taste

Why don't we say January 31 is the deadline? That way Ziggy can participate.
12-30-2008, 10:55 PM
This sounds really fun, definitely count me in.
12-31-2008, 12:59 AM
I'll be happy to organize it this year if Ziggy is too busy.
PM me with your name, snail mail address, and tea preferences/allergies by January 31.
If anyone lives in the UK or Australia or somewhere that requires special postage, we can do what we did for LisaV last year and have one person collect your teas and send them all to you at once.

I'm definitely in! I will try to find something in Africa, but if not then I will ask around here. I should be able to get something by the end of the month. Wheeee! I'm looking forward to this.
My laptop is down for the count (I dropped it and now it works randomly, thank goodness I got Dell's 'no questions asked' extra insurance package) and won't be fixed for a while. I'm currently using a workstation that doesn't allow anything fancy, which would include notes and copy/paste, so I would really appreciate it if someone else could do it this year.
Thanks, CF Scorpio, you're great!

Sounds like fun. Count me in. Let me know if you need me to send you my address. It's the same as for the Secret Santa exchange we just did.
01-02-2009, 01:28 PM
I want to do it!! I PM'd you CF.

Seven of us are in so far. Yay!

Just bumping this in case anyone else is interested. I've already got one flavour bought, and was CONSIDERING sending off some red ginger chinese stuff my roommate left behind, but sent some to Daria last week and she nearly DIED and told me to TRASH IT ALL THIS MINUTE as it was the devil!! LOL So I don't think I'll be cursing anyone with that wretched concoction. Unless someone wants it. HAHAHA Message me I'll send it to you special!!
