I met a woman in Houston who is from Singapore, and she is of Indian heritage. Is there a big Indian population there?
There is a sizeable "Indian" (meaning people originating from India; Sri Lanka; Pakistan; and Bangladesh) population here indeed. They constitute almost 10% of the population. Indian food is very popular in Singapore and almost everyone in the country is familiar with Indian movies (including the dance moves). The Indians themselves will tell you that the "Indian" group is a diverse one, consisting north/south Indians; Indians of different castes; Tamils, Punjabis, Gujaratis and others. The word "Indian" doesn't really do justice to the diversity of the people, just like the word "Chinese" doesn't.
Little India at Serangoon Road is a popular destination for many residents as it's still one of the culturally authentic places in the country. Tamil is one of the official languages in Singapore, although of course "Indian languages" constitute other languages such as Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi and others. Tamil is taught as a mother language in schools although I think other Indian languages are also available at selected schools.
The race issue is a very complex and sensitive one in Singapore; we've had racial riots in the 1960s. As "races" like Indian, and Malay are in the minority, the Singapore government takes great pains to ensure that they do not form their own enclaves. One example is the "racial quota" in public housing estates. Because of this quota, my mother's next door neighbour has always been Indian.
Race is a pretty sensitive but not often talked about issue in Singapore. I'm guessing because I'm part of the majority and most of my friends are Chinese, we don't sense the racism in our society. However, I am willing to bet the Malays, Indians and other races do suffer from racist treatment regularly.

I sent off all my teas a while ago, so please let me know if you haven't received it yet.
Eveline, I have no idea how long it takes to get to Singapore but yours might still be another week or two arriving? Hopefully not, but you never know.

By the way, I think I got all my teas now. Loved the African Pride one. Yummy, good strong tea without being bitter.
Eveline, I tried the very pretty tea you sent and gave one to a friend here at work who was all sorts of happy about the goodies in the packet. (She lived in China for a while and had had that tea before.)
I bring a new tea to work every day right now.

I have been enjoying the teas so far. My favorites so far flavorwise have been the black cherry tea and the African Pride (the latter left me REALLY wired from the caffeine though).

Ziggy, your teas showed up yesterday and I am really excited to try them, thank you!

IMO it's not too late to include Eddy. What do the rest of you think?

No go. I can't really afford to ship things right now. Thanks for the nice thought though.

I just tried Eveline's loose tea. It was good, but interesting, if that makes sense. I guess I am just not quite used to tea that has so many large components, yet at the same time, they all seemed to complement one another. I got two Christmas morning teas, but I haven't tried them yet. I think one came from Jo and one from bellis_coldwine.

Ziggy, I received your teas just now. Thanks for sending them! African teas sound really intriguing and the Marsala tea smells divine!
I've tried the Caramel Vanilla and the Rooibos teas so far. The Caramel Vanilla does take getting used to (flavour is so strong!) and I loved the Rooibos tea. This tea exchange is great for tasting a huge variety of teas!
dune67, if you wish, I can send more teas to you. Or if you're game to try something more medicinal, I can send some Chinese herbal stuff over. This offer is open to anyone who is game to try some Chinese medicinal stuff!

I have done the Chinese herbal thing in the past with an acupuncturist. She ended up having to give me herbs in tablet form because I became ill from the two different types of teas she tried on me. One tasted like dirt; the other one had sort of a vague carrot taste to it along with something that left a metallic aftertaste.
What I wish I could find is a really good peach tea. We used to have a tea room that made a great peach tea, but they closed several years ago. I make my own at home with a sugar-free peach syrup now, but I like the delicate flavor that a natural tea has sometimes. I've tried the Luizianne and Celestial Seasonings as well as Lipton but haven't quite gotten the flavor I want. I also don't want it to taste fake, like that awful peach flavoring in some candies.

Dune67, see if Benchley's makes a peach tea. Their fruit-flavored black teas are excellent! Also try Republic of Tea.

I found a peach melba on their web site. When we get paid again, I will order it and also the orange spice and the apple spice.

If anyone wants more of either of mine, please PM me and I would be happy to send a couple (I didn't pay much for shipping the first time around so I don't mind).
