I work for the gubmint. There is no such thing as a bonus!

I voted no, because I work for a non-profit. Plus had only been part-time at retail store for a few months and did not even think of getting anything from them. But suprise! Last week with my regular check was a $50 bonus. Whoohoo - that was a nice little extra. Of course, I spent it last night on eBay buying up some more pattern books.

Teacher-no such thing

I've never had a job where I got a bonus.
12-21-2008, 12:51 PM
I answered yes, even though I already got my bonus the week of thanksgiving. So technically I am no longer expecting one since I already got it. So I should have answered no. Maybe you could re-word the question?
BTW, not every industry gets their bonuses on Xmas. DH's company also gets theirs on thanksgiving week. When I worked in banking and on Wall St., bonus day was always March 15.

Me neither.
I had a friend who worked as an office manager who got a "bonus" one year. He was counting on it to help pay some bills, and I went to his office xmas party with him and they handed out the "bonuses" there. He opened his envelope and it was a whole $50 bill. Wow. Bonus.

I answered Yes for my husband cause he already got his bonus of a $100 Gas Card at BP Stations from Pitt Ohio Express.
Which is more then he ever got working his tail off at ECK.
When I worked at the bank the only bonus's we got was stupid candy.
LOL
And that was 2 decades ago when Banks were in tip top shape.
LOL
How generous of them............NOT!

I've actually had a number of jobs that gave out bonuses but it was mostly based on sales. My current job is not different.
It's not technically a Christmas bonus but more of a profit sharing type bonus and is based on sales. Our year end is September but by the time they figure out sales, it's usually around Christmas when the money is handed out.
I missed out last year because I was not with the company long enough. I'm expecting the bonus tomorrow as I know the cheques arrived on Thursday. The question is, how much. . .I'm hoping 10% of my salary but we didn't make our target this year so it will probably be half that - which I can live with for sure!

When I worked at Wal-Mart once you hit so many years you'd get a percentage, I think I'd get $80 or something? I'm unemployed now so I obviously put no. Hubby is military, they don't get bonuses.

Yes, I have gotten one every year since 1998, except for the times I've been unemployed.

Another government slug here, so no I didn't get one.
My sister got hers on Thursday, though, and it was several thousand, so she shared some with me! WHEE!

Several thousand?! Man, the most I've ever gotten was a Liz Clairborne leather purse and $100.

I'm expecting a couple thousand - we'll see.

She works for a big bank and it's usually touted as some sort of profit sharing thing in tandem with performance. This year they were told not to expect anything as there were no profits... LOL... but she won an award at work for excellence, so they couldn't really deny it to her, seeing as it was partly based on performance.
We just went shopping and enjoyed it immensely!

i used to get bonuses at work, but they cut them out starting this year. the weird thing is they pushed for us to become union, but then screwed us in the end. they said when we went union, we wouldnt lose anything, that everything would stay the same benefits wise, money wise, etc, but nooooooo, as soon as we were union, they cut bonuses, they said that they couldnt pay us spiffs for selling mechanical breakdown insurance, or GAP insurance because "everyone has to be able to be paid equal" which makes no sense because everyone that works there is a loan officer so we all have the same opportunity to make the money, and we even countered with "put it all in a pool and at the end of the year we will split it evenly." they wouldnt go for that either, plus we lost days off, it was just a disaster. none of us are happy about it, but the next negotiations will be coming up soon, and we are gonna be a lot more demanding this time since they screwed us last time.

I've gotten one for the last five years, but not this year! I was expecting one - we'd talked about it when I was hired, but here comes and goes my last time at work last week before Christmas and: NOTHING. Figures. Just another reason to hate my job.

We don't get Christmas bonus checks. We get a performance based bonus in February based off of our goals from the year before.
Though the past 2-3 years we have gotten 25dollar gift cards from Target from the CEO and Upper management at our holiday party.
When I worked at the insurance company, we got $100 right before Christmas. According to my boss at the time, you got $100 for every year that you worked there. The company got sold to a bigger fish so I never did see if she was right about every year equals $100.

In 2001, I got a $20K bonus. After taxes it was $10k, but that was still nice. I lost my job later that year and was unemployed for a year, so the money came in handy for bills later on!
