I got a small Christmas bonus at work, and instead of socking it away in the bank like I usually do, I thought I would get something for myself that I normally would not get. I am a HUGE Eddie Izzard fan, and there are a few things on his website (small stuff - a keychain, a calander, and cards) that I thought about getting. My total without shipping is $27.00 USD. I do believe the merchandise is being shipped from the UK, therefore, the shipping for my stuff is about $26.00 USD!!! It is just about the same as my stuff. Normally, my tight wadded self wouldn't order it, but I figured that since I hardly ever get things for myself, I may get it. I'm just really bad about talking myself out of getting things.

So, would you get it? I'm just trying not to talk myself out of it, but it's hard!!
I've ordered things from Europe and shipping is always way expensive. It depends on how much you want it and if you can't get it domestically shipped cheaper. There are books and things I've ordered from the UK that I cannot get here no matter what, so I've paid crazy shipping prices, but I had to REALLY want it.
sharon g GET IT!!!!!!!! "You can't take it with you" Money that is..
You only live once in life and all the other inspriational jargon I can't think of right now, to tell you NOT to talk yourself out of it.
If you rarely splurge then your due for a big treat!
It would be different if your always buying yourself everything your hearts desire every damn day.. But since you YOURSELF called you a tight wad, then I doubt the former ever happens.

So PLEASE by all means BUY it who cares what the shipping is. If it is something you really want get it.
And if you have not found the same products anywhere else for less? Then for sure get it.
Cause you won't find it anywhere else, that is also a reason the S/H is high. But hey, they have to make a living too, so, go for it! Thumbsup and enjoy! Smile

Edit: To Answer the Question.. One time, I searched High & low for a Microwave Browning tray.
I could not find it anywhere, not even in our local stores.
I finally found on on E Bay.
The tray was selling for $3
but the S/H was $12
I was a bit miffed. But I got it anyway, And I am so glad I did. The tray works great and as it turned out the S/H was reasonable cause the Tray was a lot bigger and heavier then I thought it to be. Smile
I'm Canadian, so shipping, even from the US, is always way more expensive for me than it is for Americans.

I am used to it. I don't buy stuff willy nilly online, and I have to be a bit more choosy than if shipping was free or cheap. But I put the cost of shipping in with the cost of the item, and think to myself "Is this total price acceptable for the item?" and if so then I go ahead and order it.

If you love Eddie and this is the only way to get the stuff, just consider it the cost of doing business.

PrairieGirl

I've paid super-high shipping if it's something I really want.
I hate paying a lot for shipping, but if it's something you really can't find anywhere else, sometimes you just have to suck it up and do it.
I use the same logic as Jo... Is it worth $53 to you? Can you get it elsewhere for less?

That's the only way to do it... TW's example being a good one as sometimes you can pay a lot for shipping but if the item in a store is more than the combined item/shipping cost then it's still a deal! Same thing with an unusual item, sometimes the total cost is completely worth it!
I'm still on the fence. One moment it's "what the hell", the next moment is "well, I don't know, I could spend it on something like groceries." I'm searching some online, but I haven't found it yet. ggrrrr, I hate being a tightwad!
Yes. Anything is better than dealing with brick and mortar stores.
S/H costs never use to really bother me because I just figured it was just part of online shopping.
Then I realized many places would ship things for free! I now wait until I can find what I want on a site that will ship for free.

Now, that being said, I just forked over $20 in S/H for something that I really, really, really wanted....and I am in the US getting a product shipped within the US!

You know what? It was totally worth it!! Silly
Seeing as the majority of stuff I order online comes from overseas (particularly Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong...that area...the very pricey shipping area!), I've accepted it. The things I buy are ones that I can't get in the States, so it's either suck it up and pay the shipping or be without cool stuff. I remember one order where I paid almost $70 for shipping! But it was for books, so they're heavy and add up really fast.

But yeah, it sucks when I'm paying as much (if not more) for shipping than I am for the actual item(s) I'm buying. But the stuff I get is more than worth it. Big Grin

Edited cause I was using "stuff" as every other word. XD
If it's something that I really want and can't get elsewhere, or if the shipping cost doesn't make it cost the same or more than something I can get locally, I will pay high shipping costs. Otherwise I prefer to get it locally so I can actually see it. I have bought 99-cent books on Amazon and then paid $4 for shipping, but the book is still cheaper than if I got it new and the free shipping.
