Opilies Wrote:So Arkved do you think Weight Watchers really helped you lose weight. I didn't read all the posts. I did read that you have lost 40 lbs! I am working on losing weight. I have to because of my diabetes. I think I am doing OK, but was wondering if Weight Watchers would be an added bonus or not. I don't want to end up feeling like I am wasting my money and time. I have a great doctor I am working with right now. He told me to keep my carbs to about 45g per meal and 15g per snack. So far I've doing my dandiest to stay on track. My blood sugars have been down.
I've also been diligent about keeping my promise to my doc (and myself of course) to do 30 minutes of exercise 5 days a week. I am checking back with him in six weeks. There is a Weight Watchers at the same strip mall where my Curves is. I also wonder if I shouldn't be going in there too.
absolutely it helped me. Since you dont know that whole backstory, i will give you the brief run down. I did WW once before, but i didnt do it for me, i did it because my then wife wanted to do it and i did it to help support her. I lost over 140lbs on it that time. I was at 326.7 and got down to the 180s. fastforward a year or so and i find myself working 2 jobs, buying a house, buying a new car, finding out my wife is cheating, divorce, etc etc etc. the stress and lack of focus took its toll and i gained a lot back, not all of it, but far too much. Now i am doing it for ME this time, and it is working fabulously!
I would HIGHLY recommend talking to your doctor first before joining and see what he thinks. He is the only one that can tell you if the plan is right for you. I think he will agree though that WW is the best weight loss plan for taking and keeping the weight off. It is the most open plan(meaning no BANNED foods). It is all about teaching you to eat the correct potion sizes, and getting in healthy foods too. I think it would work great for you, but again, ask your doctor first, he would be the best to advise on this for your specific medical needs.

ok, time for a WW update. Ive not updated as frequently because ive been on the go a lot and not made it to my weekly meeting as regularly as i would like. I got to the meeting today a little concerned. Yesterday was an all day metal concert (Rockstar's Mayhem Tour) and i spent the day with friends drinking beer and tequila. So when i stepped on the scale and saw the end result i was thrilled!! I have lost another 3.8 lbs, and am down to 250.6!!!!!!!! SWEEEEET!!!!! I have a medium length plan/goal set right now. it started last week actually, and i call it my 40 in 20 plan. in 20 weeks (well 19 now) i will be going to disneyland with a bunch of friends. I want to lose 40 lbs over that 20 week time period. That is a very healthy and safe rate of loss, averaging 2lbs a week. So far i am ahead of the game with losing 3.8 the first weigh in, so hopefully i can stay on board, focused, and keep the weight falling off so that when week 20 hits and im on my way to disney, i will have lost a total of over 80lbs and will be WELL on my way to getting to my final goal weight!!!
HAPPY DAYS!!!!
Joe
Good luck Joe sounds like you are doing awesome!
Thanks Dana, I feel awesome! so much more energy, so much more life in me. I have been walking every day for the last week, and plan on keeping that up. I want to get some hand weights to carry with me when walking to a little more to the workout!
Joe
Congrats, Joe. You are kicking butt!!!
I am reporting that I've lost 4lbs in the past month. I was a little disappointed at how slowly it seems to be going, but overall I'm happy. I have on a pair of shorts today that fit me a year ago loosely - they have been too tight this summer. They are snug, but OK. So that's progress.
I've switched up my workouts completely. I used to do 1 hour cardio and about 20 minutes of half-hearted weights. Now I'm doing 20 minutes of cardio and over an hour of serious weights 4x/week and 1x/week I do 90 minutes of cardio. I like the new program - I'm hoping to build some actual muscle!

good job CNK!!!!!!!! im hoping to start adding some strength training in soon. I want to get the cardio thing down first, then will start adding in some strength training. I am gonna pick up some wrist/hand weights that i can use while walking. get some upper body toning in while getting the cardio in at the same time.
Thanks, Arkved. How's it going for you?
The scale being missing from the gym actually dealt me a setback. Crazy, I know, but not knowing if I am losing weight drove me nuts. They finally did replace the scale today and I've lost a grand .5lbs in the last 10 days. But, whatever, at least it's not a gain. So I'm happy with it.
yeah, things are going ok for me. Ive been going on a walk/jog every evening after work that is 2 miles long. all very hilly, and lots of steep up and down hills. after busting ass doing that for over a week, and eating right etc i just KNEW i had to have lost a lot....quite the opposite, i GAINED a lot. i didnt make it to my meeting to weigh in on the official scale, but my scale at home is always really close to what that one says, and i was up like 3.8lbs or something crazy like that!!!! SOOOOOOOOOOOO frustrating to do everything right and have the scale crush you like that. I know, its probably muscle mass gain, etc etc, but it is still very disheartening to think you are gonna see a big weight drop and instead you see a big gain!!!! UGH!!!
Arkved - how are you doing? I didn't realize it had been so long since we updated this thread!
I'm trying to be careful - I feel like my metabolism has slowed down to a crawl. Could be the thyroid...
im just maintaining at my 250 right now. I've had a lot of things going on in my personal life as well as health, and its all i can do to just maintain. Last i stepped on the scale, which was yesterday, i was at EXACTLY 250.0. My medium term plan got thrown out the window, but i do still have long term goals in place, and once some of these issues get settled, i can refocus back on eating properly, getting the right exercise in, and dropping the rest of this weight.
Joe
Maintaining beats gaining! Great that you can keep maintaining even with a lot going on right now. I hope everything settles out for you soon!
How's it going, Joe? Things are good here - I'm trying hard to get through the holidays. I've lost 10lbs since September. I'd like to lose about 4 more but I'm only losing about half a pound every couple of weeks now. With all the holiday temptations it's really tough!
keep up the good work CNK. its been a losing battle for me lately. this time of year gets to me. I tend to lose control a bit and gain. i KNOW i shouldnt eat THIS or THAT, but i just cant seem to stop myself. it is REALLY frustrating, and i feel like im out of control, but i know its only a matter of time until i get myself righted. Ive not stepped on the scale in a while because i know it is up, and probably by quite a bit. Just need to get past Christmas and i can get refocused.
