Usually at this time of year I find the previous year message with all the Secret Santa details, but the "Coffee Shop" forum in the archived board is locked, so I'll either have to get access from a mod or wing it.

For newbies and those who haven't done it in the past but are considering it now, here's how it works:

You let me know by a certain date - this year will be Saturday, November 22nd - if you want to sign up for Secret Santa this year. You need to supply your complete mailing address. Within a few days I'll give to you the name of one other person who has also signed up. You will be that person's Secret Santa.

Each participant updates their profile to list possible gift items and areas if interest. There will be a special log-in set up for "Santa" where any of us can log in as Santa and ask our giftee questions about what they may or may not want as a present.

Participants are encouraged to spend in the $10 range, but there have been some who have spent far more. No pressure. Home-crafted items are a big hit.

Gifts should be in the mail no later than December 15th, earlier if you are shipping to another country. If you are willing to ship to another country let me know when you sign up.

There will be a special thread dedicated to the process, where you can ask your giftee questions and also let everyone know what you got when your present arrives! The identity of the Santa is revealed when the presents are opened.

We have done this for 6 years, I believe. I think I started organizing it in 2004 - maybe bellybuttn did it the year before that? I'll need a helper to help me assign some of the matches so mine remains secret.

Unfortunately I would have serious difficulty participating because of my limited selection. I have gorgeous hand-embroidered table-cloths or mini-marble chess sets or pashmina scarves or local soaps available for that price range but if my SS doesn't want any of those then I am out of luck!

All that to say, I would love to participate but I think that this year I will put forward my offer from last year which was to organise it. It's also nice because if someone has a crisis and can't do it at the last minute then I have some really nice (but limited) things on offer.

Ok so your saying you don't have the left over info from last time?
In that case, I will shoot you over my info once again.

I have a week and a half to think upon it, which I shall. I am getting some extra hours in the next few weeks, so that is a plus. I will let you know before the deadline.

O.T. Wow I hope that does not happen to you Horse Racer. So many companies in our area are headed for that very same disaster.
I guess we will be seeing a lot worse, before it gets a lot better.

Hey Cats, I know this is Off topic for Secret Santa... and my idea won't be a secret, lol, but I feel it is better then messing around with
giving gifts to others this year.
I say let us pool all of what we were going to spend on each other this Xmas and instead give it ALL to CFScorpio.
She is really hurting from Hurricane Ike. And I think it would be a great idea to bring a little special holiday cheer to her cause she needs it the most.
Is that cool with everyone???
And if cats can set it up? I think it is a neat idea to show what the true meaning of Christmas is all about.
And if I am off base with this idea, I am sorry.
But I hope I am not alone.

Let's do both - if people want to send to CFS that's great, too but SS is an old tradition around here - it's a real joy especially for some who don't get much under the tree - I'd hate to see us not do it...

I just love his voice too, he melts me every time, lol
Anyway, I am glad your on board with SS.

Cats: OK I understand about not wanting to give up on SS tradition.
I just thought it was a good idea for CFS.
I doubt if people would want to do both as it would be double the expense.
But if some people CAN afford it, it would be cool to have CFS addy so that we can send her a nice surprise.
